My presence on social media is quite active and apparent but the one thing I am absolutely terrible at is checking the Facebook messages on my page. Although I have an assistant who checks for me regularly and alerts me to new messages, getting in there to reply sometimes falls to the bottom of the list.
Facebook introduced the ability to set an auto-reply to all Facebook messages that come in on your page. You can also set business hours and then have a specific away message that goes out to those who message you via your business page.
These auto-messages are a great way to let people know that you’ve received their message and that they can either be patient and wait or use an alternative means to contact you. For me, it’s the latter.
I’ve never been one to conduct business through Facebook, Skype, Tweets, etc. — I much prefer to do it via e-mail so that I have the tracking and history of the conversation to return to later. Plus, I have e-mail open all the time, including on my phone, so it’s a much quicker and more reliable way to get in touch with me.
If you can relate to this, you’ll want to implement the following steps immediately.
Step #1 – Go to Settings on Your Facebook Page
Step #2 – Go to Messages
Step #3 – Scroll Down to the Response Assistant Section and Enable the Away Messages and Turn on Instant Replies
Click the “Change” buttons to change your greeting to something custom. In the screenshot above, you’ll see that my messages are custom-written to apply to my business and situation. You’re limited to 250 characters so keep it short and sweet and please, NO SPAM.
