I help entrepreneurs, just like you, leverage the power of the Internet to sell their services, products and ideas.
Some days, this looks like coaching and strategic support — creating a big picture plan, mapping out a year, organizing a launch — and other days, this is a bit more “roll up the sleeves and get your hands dirty” kind of work. The ability that I bring to the table is a fierce combination of both left-brain and right-brain thinking. I can help you come up with a solid strategic plan and flex my technical abilities to make it happen.
I’m a creative and an implementor. A strategic thinker and a details-oriented project manager.
Due to this ability, the work I do with every client is both unique and the same. Unique in the sense that my depth of skills is vast so many clients leverage my abilities in whatever way is required for their business. From a task as simple as customer support to something more complex like choosing, planning and executing the installation of a new e-commerce solution, my clients know they can rely on me to get the work done efficiently, cost-effectively and with as little stress on their part as possible.
The services I offer fall under a few different categories. They are:
- One-on-one coaching and strategic support
- Online business management or virtual COO support services
The first, coaching and strategic support, is best for clients who already have a team and who just need the big picture strategy. The second is more suited for those individuals who don’t have a team and need both ends of the spectrum — strategy and implementation (aka, getting things done.) Most of my clients fall into the second category, which is what will be highlighted here. If you’re looking for more info on coaching and strategy, you’ll want to go here.
How I Work with Clients
If you’re considering working with me, here’s what the typical process looks like.
First, we’ll get on the phone to chat about your business needs. Where do you currently need help? What has you feeling overwhelmed, stuck or in over your head? These are the first (and easiest!) tasks to get off your plate so you can begin breathing again and re-focus on the income-generating activities in your business.
After the call, I will follow-up with my fee structure and other details as required. Sometimes people have a specific project in mind that they’d like quoted and other times they just simply want to know more about how I charge so they can budget accordingly. If it was required, I’ll also send over a proposal at this stage so it can go through the necessary chains of approval.
If you decide that it’s a good fit and you want to move forward, I’ll send you a link to either the agreed upon retainer or a pre-paid block of time. This begins our working relationship and will immediately put into action the next steps. I will set you up with a Freshbooks account in our system (to view invoices, time entries, etc.) and I’ll get you set up in Basecamp — our project management platform. We’ll schedule our first client kick off call and I’ll ask you to start sending me your requests instantly.
Once you’re a client, working together is much like building a relationship. We get to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, organize the business systems, determine the best plan moving forward for the business as a whole and figure out who is going to do what. Sometimes that means you and I get into the weeds on a weekly basis over the phone (ie: strategic planning weekly) and other times it means me building out what needs to be built out so that we can reach our objectives.
It’s a fluid, on-going, ever-evolving working relationship that will strengthen over time.
How I Charge for Services
I have two available options that you can engage in once you’ve become a client:
- Pre-Paid Block of Time
The retainer is priced less expensively as this option is made for long-term working relationships. I am more interested in working with someone for a long period of time than I am about project-based work. Due to this, I honour those who are willing to enter into the same way of thinking by offering them a lower investment.
The retainer is billed every two weeks on an automatic cycle. In the beginning, we’ll stay a bit more fluid and roll over hours while we figure out how much time is actually needed. Once we determine the best retainer amount, we’ll keep it there and revisit only when needed. Retainer clients get a daily touch-in from me, which means you’ll rarely go 24 hours without hearing from me on the work we’re doing together.
Pre-Paid Blocks of Time
Pre-paid blocks of time are best suited for project-based work or for seeing if the working relationship is a good fit. I usually recommend that new clients start here as it really helps to ensure we work well together (not everyone is a good fit — just like in a relationship, it’s about finding that person you jive well with.)
The pre-paid blocks of time are priced higher than the retainer because it is a premium service and project-based work is much harder to plan for than on-going retained work. The best way to describe the pre-paid blocks is to think of a pre-paid phone card — you fill it up, use the minutes and when it’s gone, you re-purchase what you need. This works exactly like that.
